Just quick-ish things this week:

  • The FRESH MEAT experiment was such a success last week (as in, you bought it all) that we’re doing it again this week! While supplies last, we’ll have fresh pork chops, pork tenderloins, and some new sausage varieties — Grandpa’s Chorizo (made with Snake Oil hot sauce, which I’ll need to write about sometime soon), Korean BBQ, Kielbasa (not smoked), and “American Italiano“. We’re having the Italian for dinner tonight, alongside some sexy tomatoes and some fresh-pulled mozzarella.
  • Yeah, you read that right — tomatoes. We’ve got more this week than last week, but still not as many as I’d like. There are heirloomsregular red slicersmixed cherry, and sungold. Be still my heart. (If you also want to have some fresh-pulled mozzarella, check out this video, and then pick up a pack of CapoMozz along with your tomatoes.)
  • Have you roasted any peppers yet? That’s one of the things we didn’t squeeze in this week, but man, I am really looking forward to doing so.
  • Once again — limited quantities of red raspberries, now with blackberries entering the scene.
  • If I list everything I’m excited about in the “quick things” section, there’ll be no point to the full list below, so I’m going to stop there. But it’s all so exciting!

Once a month-ish, I have to attend a four hour meeting about health insurance (not my own health insurance). It’s more interesting than it sounds — maybe in another life, I would have been an actuary — but it sure does mess up my day. Today was that day. And so, right now, instead of trying to shift my brain from thinking about the pros and cons of going self-funded, and wondering WTF is up with prescription rebates, and whether the hassle of making very responsible people with high deductibles go through step therapy for the prescription drugs they’re already taking is worth the potential savings for the group — I’m just going to leave you this picture of an amazing dinner Dusty made a few days ago.

That’s a chicken thigh braised in a crazy delicious shallot/vinegar amalgamation, blistered shishito peppers, and a bean salad tossed with a tarragon vinaigrette. The first fresh shallots of the season are here. That salad didn’t need all those different kinds of beans, but we’ve got almost all of them for sale this week. Just sayin’.
