  • Talking Breads available fresh this Thursday. McGrath’s arrives at 9am on Friday as usual. If you come before that hoping for something frozen….we got totally wiped out leading up to last week’s snow, so there’s very little in the freezer!
  • The sun has been a little too elusive for great quantities of greens, but we continue to have really nice young bok choy. Will you saute it and serve it next to pan seared pork chops? Make a Chinese-inspired chuck roast? A slaw? Go ambitious (and adventurous) with a sake-soaked gratin? Or how about one of R&R’s own recipes for a farro bowl or a miso carbonara?

I said it above, but I’ll say it again: Thank you to all of you who completed our survey. Mostly we heard that you appreciate us — and that was so gratifying and heartwarming to read, that it deserves its own thanks. Thank you. It’s because of you that this works, and we are so appreciative of that!

Of course, as wonderful as it has been to read all the nice things you had to say, the most useful stuff has been the suggestions and requests. There were some definite trends to emerge — interest in bulk grains and beans being a big one — and we’re thinking about and researching how we might be able to make some of those things happen while remaining true to our commitment to local sourcing. We’ll keep you posted as we make progress on that.

The other Very Big Thing is that this is officially Justin’s last week with R&R before he moves away. Justin — thank you for the incredible amount of hard work you’ve put in over the past year and a half; for your really incredible punctuality and reliability (did you ever miss a day? were you ever even a minute late?), your countless and tireless walk-in trips, your heavy lifting, your unfailing stock rotation, your constant willingness to reach high up things. For your slicing wit, your recipe experiments, your ability to eat all.the.pastries, and your (mostly) super chill vibe. For putting up with our craziness, and for being a vital part of the R&R family. We’ll miss you greatly, and wish you the best in your new adventure!
