Once again, I’ve have a little bit of trouble thinking about food this week — this time because on Sunday (Easter; April Fools), my sister gave birth to her first baby, my parents’ first grandchild, and my first niece. Mama and baby are well, and we are all head over heels in love with her. We have even forgiven her for making us wake up in the middle of the night to drive to Pittsburgh (where my sister and her husband live) and then keeping us up the whole next day as we awaited her arrival. I was able to be present for the delivery, which was, of course, the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. My sister is incredible, and I am so excited to get to know this little creature she has brought to us.
I am back in our Burg for the market week, and tonight we’ll have for dinner these Hot Honey Chicken Thighs with Fried Bread and Bitter Greens (how’s that for a mouthful?) with the Jade Family Farm Belgian Endive, the last of the winter’s garlic, and a few luscious slices of McGrath’s Original. Later this week, I’m thinking about grabbing some salmon from JB Kelly, to go with the first dill we’ve seen this season; maybe pairing it with some red potatoes and throwing together a buttermilk dill cream sauce, with some wilted spinach next to and underneath. More fresh radishes this week, too, so maybe also something to make use of the greens as well as the roots?
After the market week winds down, I’ll pack up a cooler with some goodies to take to the new parents, and Dusty and I will go enjoy some baby snuggles. I can’t wait!
