Nothing to do with food — just my babies.

Real facts, guys: I’ve got nothing this week. On Sunday, Dusty and I said a sudden goodbye to my feline fur baby of the last fifteen years; on Monday (a day later than planned) we made corned beef and cabbage; we’ve been eating leftovers and other random tidbits since. Mostly, I’ve been mourning, and we’ve both been burrowing in against the cold and snow. What a start to spring….

am thinking about what I’ll make when I regain some energy, and once the corned beef leftovers are gone. You’d think I’d be over fatty meats, but truth is I’m craving one of those country style spare ribs, maybe with a huge heap of Catalan Spinach on the side as a foil, or maybe with a sweet potato and a big mesclun salad. Simple things, walking that line between the rich heartiness of winter and the green promise of spring. I could use some promise; and at this point in the season, couldn’t we all?

I’m glad that market days are cycling around again, and that by the time we wake up tomorrow the snow will have stopped, and perhaps, at some point during the day, we will even see some sunshine. I could use some warming, and the bustle and community and joy of the market.
