Quick things:

  • Strawberries,  cucumbers, and asparagus continue this week, joined by escarole, fennel bulbs, snow peas, red beet bunches, and leek scapes (which I’d never heard of), I love almost-summer!
  • Little Amps Cold Brew will be in stock starting Friday!
  • From here out, we’ll have a smaller quantity of fresh baguettes available each Saturday. Arrive early, or send us a message if you need to reserve one!

During strawberry season — so short, so delicious — Dusty and I eat as many strawberries as we possibly can. Strawberry shortcake for dessert every night — unless, of course, it’s a strawberry pie night (just one of those, to coincide with his uncle’s birthday). Dusty’s been working on a scone/shortcake recipe that he can whip up in less time than it takes the oven to preheat. (Maybe he’ll share it with you if you ask nicely.) We don’t bother with whipped cream — or, really, we prefer it not to be whipped — and just pour some heavy cream over the strawberries after sprinkling sugar on top. So easy. So good. We should probably be freezing some since they’re so much better than what you can get out of season, but I’m not sure yet that we’re ready to delay the gratification!

This week brings a lot that’s new, though, so maybe we’ll find ourselves busy with other things. When I wrote out the list above I started with the two new items I remembered off the top of my head, and then had to keep going back to add more as I was looking through all our orders. From here out, the bounty will likely multiply every week. I’m loving it!

This week, the newest (because it’s completely new to me) item is the leek scapes. It makes a lot of sense that they exist, but I’d never heard of them. So of course I wanted them! My first thought was to put them on pizza (because I want to put everything on pizza), but then I thought I better google it. This post confirmed that I should put them on pizza, and gave me some other ideas, too. They won’t arrive until mid-day Thursday, so I haven’t had a chance to experiment yet, but I’m looking forward to it!
