kraut-cheese-steak-crackersThis is going to be a pretty quick post overall, but here are the quickest things:

  1. We now have live raw sauerkraut, fermented veggies, and cultured mustard from The Sweet Farm in Frederick, Maryland.
  2. We also have a fresh (frozen) round of beef from JuJo Acres, including some new (to us) cuts of juicy rib eye, t-bone, and porterhouse.
  3. And we also  have Bakery Crackers from Rip Rap Baking, in Real Salt, Rosemary Celtic Sea Salt, and Seeded flavors.
  4. Finally (not really), we’ve got two new cheeses in the case — Camelot Valley’s Cheve d’Azure (Blue Goat), and Lykens Valley Creamery’s Jalapeno Cheddar.
  5. Not pictured: Three Springs’ Muscle Bound Lummox Hot Sauce, Torchbearer’s Chipotle Wing Sauce, Little Amps’ Cold Brew Growlettes, and Grandview Granola’s Just Right Granola Bars.

Okay, so some of you may have noticed that not all of the items listed above are really brand new — but they’re all things we’ve added to the line-up in the last month or so that we realized we failed to make any fanfare over at all. (The sauerkrauts are genuinely new, having made their debut mid-way through last week, as are two of the three cracker varieties.)

New products sometimes come to us in funny ways — we learned about the Sweet Farm folks after Deb and Hannah from Village Acres Farm met them at this year’s PASA Conference and brought us back samples (we were immediately enamored); we learned about Rip Rap Baking when the proprietor of Appalachian Natural Foods in Carlisle gave Dusty’s mom (a former co-proprietor of the establishment) a bag for us to try; the new steak cuts the result of switching butchers and switching back in an effort to get something thick, juicy, and as fatty as grass-fed can be; the Blue Goat cheese was cheesemaker Jen’s very successful experiment; the Muscle Bound Lummox was a customer request; the Little Amps Growlettes were the result of the realization that coffee beans don’t sell as well in the summer, because no one wants to boil water in their kitchen when it’s 95 degrees; and…you get the picture!

I do have to confess that the sauerkrauts are the item I’m most excited about. Live fermented foods have been our most requested, and our personally most-wished-for, item for just about as long as we’ve been at this, and now we have them! I’ve been eating the Curtido out of the jar almost every day, and fantasizing about all the meals to eat it with. Or, really, I just want to eat pork tacos topped with Curtido every night.

Tonight, though, we’re about to sit down to some grilled rib eye (the very one pictured above), with a side of zucchini, and whatever else Dusty has been toiling over while I type. Now that I think of it, I’m pretty excited about that, too. 🙂


P.S. Had to take a break from typing the actual list to mention that I’m also really excited about some of the melons this week. We got a sample of the Haogen Israeli Melon last week, and Dusty thought it was one of the best melons he’d ever had. And I’ve never had a Sun Jewel melon, so I’m really excited to try it for the first time! Hopefully they’re good, because we have a case of them!
