These are sold out already…sorry.

The most exciting news this week won’t, unfortunately, help most of you. For a brief shining couple of hours this afternoon, we had French Breakfast Radishes from Piney Mountain Orchard! And then they were gone….snapped up by Market visitors as excited by their appearance as I was. But we should all be excited, because these were the first real spring vegetable to make an appearance this year, and it’s a wonderful (and delicious) sign of things to come. As a consolation prize, we also have the first big leafy bunching kale of the year this week, too, along with a plethora of other braising greens and salad greens — so many that for the first time in months I’ve split them into separate categories on the list below. I’m never sure where spinach should go, though…braising or salad? What do you think? It’s practically a category all its own!

In other exciting news (at least to me), this Sunday is the Philly Farm & Food Fest, which gathers hundreds of local-to-Philly farmers and artisan producers to showcase their wares. Many of these producers are also local to us, so it’s a great opportunity to for us to seek out new suppliers and talk to like-minded folks. Dusty and I attended the first “Fest” two years ago as regular ol’ consumers with a love for local food; last year we went as the brand-spankin’-new owners of a local food stand (seriously brand spankin’ new — the event was the day after the end of our first weekend as the new owners); and this year we’ll go with a little more experience under our belts and a — slightly — better idea of what we’re doing. We actually have business cards this year, so that’ll be nice…

I’m also really looking forward to a visit to the Reading Terminal Market and the Valley Shepherd cheese stand…Odds are good the “fruits” of our trip will show up in the cheese case next weekend. And who knows — maybe we’ll pick up some other new treats we don’t even know to look forward to yet!
