revivalkitchenLast Sunday, after a busy market weekend, Dusty and I trekked up to Revival Kitchen in Reedsville for an evening with Debra and Hannah of Village Acres Farm. Though a bit of a drive (and they’re closed for the next month for “winter hibernation”), I highly recommend checking out Revival Kitchen. It’s a small restaurant, on the main street of a small town, focused on seasonal preparations of local foods (including some from Village Acres!). Though I’m told the restaurant is normally hopping, our fortuitous timing on Super Bowl Sunday meant that we were able to enjoy a quiet evening of chatting and planning for the season ahead, while Chef Quintin created for us an amazing tasting menu — mushroom miso soup, candied bacon served with apple butter, deconstructed chowder, smoked duck breast (pictured) with the most heavenly carrot puree you can imagine, and a sumptuous spread of desserts. It’s rare that Dusty and I eat a restaurant meal that can compete with what we eat at home, but this was one of those occasions that blows out of the water anything we do. And the fact that it was prepared largely from the same ingredients that we have at the market? Inspiring and soul-nourishing.
